I was reading about the Norman Conquest of England by William the conqueror and I read how they salted the land to make it redundant and infertile. This caused people to resort to cannibalism because of the famine that ensued. The idea then sprung in my head and I added a little of my own touch on it(powers and abilities) and the book was born!
