Does it bother you that "Phoney Bone" and "Fone Bone" sound SO similar? Why not just pick another name? What is "Fone" supposed to mean, anyway?

Nicole I believe I read somewhere that Jeff Smith's first character of the Bone series had a face that looked like a phone- thus he named him "Fone" Bone.

Others believe that it is a homage to Don Martin and his Mad magazines, who's characters were often given the surename: Fonebone.(less)
