I haven't read Fall of the Giants, but I do have a copy of Winter of the World which I'd love to start right away. How connected are the two books, and would I be okay if I start with Winter, see how I flow with it, and then come back to Fall? Thanks in advance for the help.

I would start with Fall of the Giants, as it is about families and history through their experiences. I am on Winter of the World, and am going to finish soon. I want to read the third, as I find them compelling. I own and operate a tiny pub in northern Canada. A traveller about 25 told me that as I love history that they are essential reading!

I wouldn't. The books are very connected. It might spoil you to some things that happen in Fall of Giants. It's Ken Follett, if you've read any of his other historical fiction, you know it'll be good stuff.
Andreea Georgiana
Even if they are, indeed, connected, I read first Winter of the World and after I discovered there was another book before it, so I read Fall of the Giants after Winter of the World and I enjoyed it so much, maybe even more as I knew towards what they were heading.
Joe Ward
Winter of the World focuses on the sons and daughters of the characters from Fall of Giants. You could read them out of order but you might prefer not to.
Debra Jeakins
I would start with Fall of the Giants so you can really enjoy the entire scope of the trilogy

It woudl help if you had read Fall Of Giants but even if you pick up this one you can make sense as Ken Follet keeps introducing all the characters as and when they are mentioned .
Sally Crosiar
Same cast of characters - or their descendants; new war.
Maria
I read first Winter of the World, a year later Fall of Giants and then the third one.
