Jeanette
Jeanette asked Rachel Caine:

Is it harder to write a novel or series?

Rachel Caine I personally find it harder to write a stand-alone novel than a series (but everyone's different). For me, a stand-alone is a movie in my head, which means I have to tell the entire story and everything about the characters in that one effort.

A series is, for me, the equivalent of more of a TV show, where the characters grow over time and we get to know them more and more closely. And especially for characters I really enjoy, I want to stay with them.

Eventually, though, even a series has a natural end point. For some, it's two or three books. For others, it can seem to go on forever, but eventually, it has to come to a close. That can be the most difficult part, to end a series in an all-around satisfying way.

But every time I sit down to write something, it feels like the first time I've written anything. There's always new challenges or problems. So that's not a blanket answer, just a general one.
