There is absolutely no substitute for putting in the work. Telling stories makes you better at telling stories. Read as widely as you can, read constantly, read for the joy of it, and let that joy inform what you do.
At the same time, find out about the BUSINESS of writing. Know the basics of how contracts work, why you should/shouldn't self-publish or traditionally publish, how agents work, and all the rights you create when you create a work (and what to do with them). That's all very important too.

Hey Rachel, silly question, but it's been bugging me. The default Goodreads edition of the fourth book in your "The Great Library" series has been set as the unreleased cover-less paperback version and it looks bad on the series list page. Can you set the default edition to the hardback please?? ;)
