Sadie Mckenna It really depends on what kind of reader said thirteen-year-old is. There is not much of anything "inappropriate", but there are some pretty bloody battle scenes, which are fairly descriptive. There are no sex scenes, two characters kiss and that is it (it is not very " visual". Basically Hugo says "they kissed." and that is that.) Mostly you need to have a lot of patience to read this, because Hugo has a habit of droning on about subjects that don't seem like they benefit the story, but definitely do. Also, I am fourteen, and this book is one of my all-time favorites.
Anna Well, I am a seventh grader and I am enjoying it, but it is a little hard to understand because it was written in the 18-hundreds, but i'd say, it is ok for a 13 year old.
Sophie I read this when I fit that description and I got through it just fine.
Celia It depends on if this girl likes to read. The story line is great, but this is one of those types of books where you read it if you really like to read. It is a good book for a 13-year-old girl because I was 11 when I read it. Sooooo, it depends on the girl.
Margaret Hello, I recommend reading the introduction, it really gives the book a whole different light. But, I guess it really dependents on your reading comprehension. But I think it isn't just about being able to understand the words, it's also about understanding the theme and ideologies Victor Hugo is trying to convey.
Anuj Sharma Thanks for answering. I've given this book on her birthday.
