I did! Sometimes he said "that's a bad word" for things like stupid or idiot. You could also self-censor when reading aloud if you prefer.

I think it would depend on whether or not the child is already accustomed to listening to chapter books aloud. I don't think it would be the book I would start with for this as it is a little longer.

No, I would wait a little, but of course I don't know the child in question. It's just that parts of the book, involving the Chokey or Miss Trunchbull in general might be too scary.

Matilda is five or six for the magority of the book so I think it would be really good for a four year old.

Yes! Matilda is a great child friendly book. It inspired me when I was a kid ! If she’s/he’s very imaginative Matilda would be a great book! However ir has some words like idiot and stupid but you can censor those words out and say a synonym for it
mera
If the kid has read other books kind of similar to this, I think you should go for it. My little brother is around the same age and if I was in your place, I would read it! Anyway, go with your gut!

I would recommend for a number of reasons
Emily Sullivan
I think if the child is very smart then go ahead but the description of this child is mature and imaginative nothing about smartness, but I would still read to a 4 year old because they are ready for a chapter book. I was ready for a chapter book at 4
