It seemed like most of the tensions were that people were interpreting the religious texts differently as a way of controlling people. One of Malala's major issues is most of the women are illiterate so they are unable to read the religious texts which is one the reasons that the Taliban was able to get such a large following. What was confusing was why people were changing what was being said for their own gain. She couldn't grasp why people would call her a bad Muslim or claim she was against her religion for trying to help others.
