I am of 14 and a half. Is this book appropriate for me? Why is it adult and should I read it?

I would say that it's fine for you to read. Everyone has different ideas about what content is too extreme for a certain age, but I would say that it should be just fine for the average 14 year old. It really depends. Brandon Sanderson's writing tends to be pretty easy to read, such that some people would squabble over whether Mistborn is really adult fantasy and not YA. I would say that the subject matter is serious enough to call it adult, but it does kind of straddle the line. In terms of content, there is little or no profanity, some violence (it can be somewhat gruesome, but it never gets super graphic, in my opinion), and very little sexual content. The caveat with the sexual content is that it is implied that the nobles routinely rape their lowborn slaves, but there are no scenes involving that--just characters discussing it.(less)
