I know this is a random question. But I remeber reading one of your blog posts where you wrote about your husband and since you have written about Ancient Rome, it got me thinking...would he make a good Roman Emperor? Again, sorry about the randomness...

Interesting question! I asked the Overseas Gladiator, and after some back and forth, we both agreed that he could learn be a good Emperor, but that he'd be better suited for an Emperor's Right Hand man role. He'd be terrific as a King's Hand or a Commander of the Kingsguard (to go with Game of Thrones terminology) because he's exactly the type who could tell a monarch something they don't want to hear, and who could be relied on in public and in private to give good unflinching advice and then ruthlessly carry it out.
That's the role Vix ends up with in "Lady of the Eternal City," and Vix is in large part based on my husband!

I've just finished re-reading your story from "A Day of Fire" for the 5th time and simply wanted to thank you for creating someone like Marcus, who is one of the most endearing characters I've ever read about, and for Diana, who rocks :) I would totally love to read more about them, but, alas, I've already read your Rome series! Also, if you have time, can you tell how these two came to life as your characters?

Hi! First of all, I'd like to say I adore your Roman books (haven't read the Borgias yet, but I plan on doing it as soon as I get a chance). As both a history student and an aspiring writer, I was wondering how many history book about a certain topic do you read before sitting down to write a historical fiction novel? Since your books always seem rather on point from the historical point of view. :)
