How long did it take you to write "Undertow" and what inspired this story?

Elizabeth O'Roark I actually wrote "Undertow" very, very quickly. From start to finish in less than three months, about three times faster than any other book. I'd had this idea for a long time about a story between two people who'd grown up as best friends, kept apart by a class difference once they were old enough for people to be bothered by it, but initially I thought of it as more of a historic romance, set late-1800ish, set in Sullivan's Island, SC. I really have NO idea how it evolved the way it did, but I'm glad it worked out!
