Michelle, as an author such as yourself or for publishing companies, why are books given away for free on giveaways or read and reviews, when it's probably guessed or known there will probably be very little in return in the way of honest reviews?

I only give away advanced review copies to my Street Team members, and the majority of them do provide a review in return!
I also give away Elementals 1 to everyone who subscribes to my mailing list, as a way to build awareness of my books and to connect with my readers. It's an investment (of money and time) to give an author that's new to you a chance, so I hope that by providing new readers with one book for free, they'll enjoy it and then continue to buy my other books :)
