Goodreads asked Eric Shaw Quinn:

How do you deal with writer’s block?

Eric Shaw Quinn The best way to deal with writer’s block is to keep my expectations low. Otherwise it’s like saying I’m going to lose the whole twenty pounds today. I can lose the twenty pounds, but it’s going to take some time. So if my goal is not to eat a chocolate cake today, then I’m more likely to achieve it. Writing isn’t actually that hard, but if I’m focused on more that I can get done in a couple hours in front the computer, I get overwhelmed. I can’t write the whole novel the first day. Or plan the marketing. Or respond to editors or critics or my mother and write. So I try to set small reasonable goals – I will write for fifteen minutes today. I can’t ever stop at fifteen but if that’s the only expectation, I am much more likely to have successful day writing. And one successful day leads to the next.
