The best thing about being a writer is having characters surprise me. There are times when something happens, changing the story entirely, and I never saw it coming. Or a random comment by a character can become important down the line without my ever planning it.
Getting to know the characters is always fun, but having them surprise me and take on a life of their own is cool.
