The best thing about being a writer is definitely that I get to create my own characters. I get very attached to them, as if they're my own (admittedly crazy) children. I often spend hours on end thinking up fun scenarios for them or just imagining scenes that likely won't ever actually become public knowledge. It's a thrilling experience, like having a million friends.
