I read the Healer series a while ago and i loved it. I loved how some of the characters had different powers. I am just wondering for the characters that had powers, how did you come up with each character's power?

Maria V. Snyder Hello Alyce! I'm glad you enjoyed my Healer books. Before writing the books, I had the basic idea of the magic system. Since the Peace and Death Lilys were going to play an important part of the story, I knew I wanted the other magic to be linked to the environment and nature. Kerrick's forest magic seemed to fit him and Tohon needed to be very powerful in order to be a serious threat to my main characters. Plus I'd figured a life magician would have a god complex. Most of the time, I discover things as I write the book - when Jael showed up, I was surprised to find out she is an air mage - that's the best part of writing for me :)
