I think these are some of the fundementals a writer should focus on. To improve one's vocabulary, a person must read. To improve their writing, they must write and edit their work. There is no way to escape these steps. So, work hard and have fun. As long as you enjoy what you're doing and try hard to get better, you'll be fine.
