I have no idea. It just happens of it's own accord. I could be watching a music video, reading a book, drinking tea, watching the sky, and a possible plot will just pop into my head.
I think we all have an ability to create a story from as little as a single word. It is up to us to put the effort in and write it out for others to take the journey along with the characters and the writer.
