I wouldn't call first person writing rare in fantasy. Roger Zelazny and Robin Hobb spring to mind immediately. It's less usual than third person though - I'll agree to that.
Prince of Thorns' main character was inspired by the main character in A Clockwork Orange. That book was written in first person - it seemed the natural way to present such a character.

Do you know the word count for Gunlaw or an estimated number of pages it would have? It's described as online published and Goodreads sadly can't add it to the My Year in Books feature because of the lack of page numbers being informed. I would like for it to appear in My Year in Books.
