Goodreads asked Zia Wesley:

How do you get inspired to write?

Zia Wesley I first read about 25 pages on Aimée (my main character) in 1971 and felt like I was watching or remembering the story unfold as I read. Her story never left me and when I had the chance to finally see if I could tell it myself, I wrote for ten hours a day for two years. This was before the internet was invented and I lived in a remote valley in southern Colorado with the only library forty five miles away. Six years later when I moved back to the Bay Area, I practically moved into the local library where I discovered that many of the characters and situations I thought I'd "imagined" were actually real.I was hopelessly hooked from the very beginning.
