Goodreads asked Mary Alice Monroe:

Where did you get the idea for your most recent book?

Mary Alice Monroe The idea for "A Lowcountry Wedding" was organic to the Lowcountry Summer trilogy. Two of my characters, Carson and Harper, were engaged at the end of the third book in the series, which is set in and around Sullivan's Island, SC. That's near Charleston, which is a top destination wedding location.

The situation got me thinking—why are so many couples coming from all over the country to Charleston to get married? This region of the state is called the "Lowcountry". What is a lowcountry wedding? I explored those questions and believe the reasons are more profound than the beautiful backdrop for wedding photographs. The Charleston area is rich with history, traditions and mindful of etiquette and protocol. Even the most non-traditional woman wants some etiquette followed at her ceremony. This is great fodder for a story about a family wedding, different
opinions in the generations, arguments and compromise.
