Tokyo Cover Girls is based on my own experience working as a model in Asia and I originally wrote a memoir about my career in the fashion industry. However, although I secured an agent and thought I was on my way to achieving my publication dreams, we eventually were told by Penguin that teens were only interested in reading memoir by celebrities. I don't think that's true, as I have read many that weren't but it did make me think: what if I fictionalized it? Though for the record, my time in Japan Taiwan, and China didn't involve nearly as many stab wounds and boy betrayals as featured in the Tokyo Cover Girls (thankfully).
