Mary Kubica The twist comes as part of the writing process. I rarely know where I plan to go with my novels and don't have the ending in mind when I begin writing, but rather set the stage and develop my characters and see where they lead me. Anita Shreve's The Last Time We Met has a wonderfully unexpected ending, and I'll never forget the shock I felt when I got to it - it's a feeling I hope to emulate in my own novels. A good novel for me has a unique plot and characters that truly speak to me.
