Markiea asked Mary Kubica:

Aloha Mary! When you start the process of a new story/book, what is your muse? Are your ideas new, or are have they been in your mind for some time? Have you ever had to fight writer's block and if so, how did you overcome it? And finally, which author(s) do you fangirl over?

Mary Kubica My initial muse is typically a small, underdeveloped idea that spirals into so much more during the process of writing the novel. I fight writer's block quite often (as someone who doesn't outline, I often come to a point in the process and think: now what?), and I find it best to step away from the computer and work through these tricky spots when doing other things - cleaning the house, running errands, exercising, etc. And my author fangirl moment would most certainly have been a few weeks ago when I met Lisa Scottoline for the first time - that was a HUGE thrill for me! I love her. Thanks so much for the terrific questions!
