In my opinion, the books are much better than the tv series and are well worth reading if you enjoyed the show. Be warned though there are quite a few differences between the two of them characters do not act as they do in the show and storylines are completely different.

I think that the TV show, also called Gossip Girl, is much better because you can feel the emotion when you watch it and it makes it more real.
