Yes. If you wanna write, or read better and see more in what you're reading, that's your book.
A.V. Dalcourt
I gave this a gander last year, and it has helped me to enjoy reading again. Becoming a better writer was a side effect of learning how to read deeply, and learning from master storytellers works.
Nandi
Yes! Definitely! I mean, if your objective is to write, well.
Gabriel
I'm 12 pages in and I've learned it definitely captivates you from the beginning if you give Francine a chance to show you how the writing process she uses works.
Mookie
Absolutely. It is not a guide on how to write per se, rather it is a guide on how to read great works of fiction and dissect them for greater understanding.
Pam
No, this book is not a guide for writers as it claims to be. It's mainly the author gushing over the way a sentence is arranged, like magnetic word tiles on a fridge, rather than any meaning or purpose it may convey. She says that Hemmingway's views on a "true" sentence confuse her. If you want confirmation bias for a love of writers that, on average, died in 1923, this is worth it. It you want to learn more about writing craft to assist you in becoming a modern-day novelist, this isn't it.
