A Goodreads user asked Mary Kubica:

I try to write a novel I thought about... And after some days I get a story that I THINK is better... So the result is that I can never write more than four chapters of a book... Do you have any advice for me?

Mary Kubica Have you tried to outline your novel in advance, so you have an idea of where the story will go beyond chapter 4? I'm typically not someone who outlines, but it works well for many authors I know and might come in handy for you. This way you can pace the story and include some depth to the plot and the characters to extend your stories beyond what you are currently writing. Also, if you're losing interest or running out of plot ideas, then maybe it just isn't the right story for you. Try again with another idea - or genre even. Or maybe novellas or short stories would suit you well? Just some ideas! Best of luck with your writing.
