Cindy Hammer
Cindy Hammer asked Bill Myers:

Bill, I haven't read any of your books, but I purchased 6 books for a book club at a Christian homeschool. I purchased Truth seekers the machine. I have read the reviews and I only feel a little nervous about the demon parts...the kids are young in my group 4th and 5th graders. They are all Christian children but I was wondering if I needed to explain anything to them before we start the book. Will this book be scary?

Bill Myers Great question, Cindy, and I would say it depends on the child. I try to stay within the limits of Biblical scariness, but there are definitely portions of even Scripture that are too intense for children. (Besides the Old Testament violence I'm thinking more of the demoniac who comes from the graveyard to meet Jesus). So... I'd error on the safe side and pass on that particular book. I'm sure it's nothing the "average" child of today hasn't been exposed to in the world, but why not be a safe haven for them, instead. That said, I'd strongly recommend the "My Life as..." series. It's goofy, fun and each book has a clear message. Then there's my favorite, "Imager Chronicles" like Narnia but a bit deeper. There are sample chapters at www.billmyers.com. Hope that helps and thanks for being such a vigilant parent!
