asked:
can someone please tell me the order of these dorothy must die books. Im pretty confused. does the Dorothy Must Die stories vol 1 consist of No Place Like Oz, The Witch Must Burn, The Wizard Returns? vol 2 consist of Heart of Tin, The Straw King, Ruler of Beasts? or is DMD vol 1 and 2 a different story? plus, what is the best order to read this series?

Honestly, there are WAY too many novellas, so I get the confusion. The best way to read this series (if you're dead on on it) would be to follow how the series is set up on GR (like, when you click on the series name beside the title). https://www.goodreads.com/series/1118...
So it's Dorothy Must Die: Stories (Vol. 1) (consisting of No Place Like Oz (#0.1), The Witch Must Burn (#0.2), and The Wizard Returns (#0.3)). Then DMD: Stories (Vol. 2) (consisting of Heart of Tin (#0.4), The Straw King (#0.5), and Ruler of Beasts (#0.6)). Then the novellas Order of the Wicked (#0.7) and untitled #0.8.
Full-length novel wise, it's Dorothy Must Die, The Wicked Will Rise, Yellow Brick War, and untitled book 4.
The novellas are all a prequel arc so they're not necessary to read, only if you want to be fully immersed into the world.
Also, yes, Vol. 1 and Vol. 2 consist of the prequels you mentioned, just bound up in a physical copy!

Best I can tell from reading....The Straw King, Ruler of Beasts, No Place Like Oz, Heart of Tin, The Wizard Returns, The Witch Must Burn, Dorthy Must Die, Wicked Will Rise, Yellow Brick War....The next novella, number 7Order of Wicked, comes before The Witch Must Burn since the order is mentioned in Burn.....PLEASE CORRECT ME IF THIS IS WRONG....cant find order anywhere!

For me it worked in the best way to read it in order when each book was published, as there were always references in the main books about the prequel stuff, it kinda connected better for me and I could remember it better, I guess it works to read it first the prequels than the main books, but I would forget a lot of it once getting to the main books, so I think the best read as published and as the Queen of Oz and The End of Oz are published on the same date, I first read Queen of Oz and then End of Oz to have the big ending and it worked great :)

It goes in this order Dorothy must Die, the The Wicked will Rise, then Yellow Brick War, and lastly The End of Oz there you go.

The main series goes in this order
1. Dorothy Must Die
2. The Wicked Will Rise
3. The Yellow Brick War
4. The End of Oz
the rest are just small stories that tell you more about each character, almost like a prequel to each and every individual in the books. I don't know if the author couldn't put that character development in the regular books, but they're not terrible. Definitely read the main books first though, they're absolutely amazing!
