Sara Orem
Sara Orem asked:

The voice of Nao is initially less interesting to me than the reaction of the author/writer Japanese-American Ruth. Ruth's persona is very close to the author's. Her reaction to Nao's narrative is much more interesting and provocative than the Nau's immature voice Ruth finds in the plastic-covered packet from Japan. What makes Nao's initiative significant (other than her telling of her great-grandmother's life)?
