Jean asked Rhys Bowen:

I had a lot of fun with Queen of Hearts. It was fun to play spot-the-Hearst-Castle-bits! Now, you mentioned that Goldman had just bought most of a Spanish convent. Would that by any chance connect to the Spanish Cistercian abbey Hearst bought in 1931 and never got around to turning into a castle in McCloud? If so, have you visited the recreated chapter house in Vina, CA?

Rhys Bowen Goldman's castle was certainly modeled on Hearst. When we did the tour we were told that certain candlesticks came from an abbey in Spain. I have never visited the building in Vina. I'll check it out. Thank you.
