Claire Talbot
Claire Talbot asked Martha Hall Kelly:

I really enjoyed your book, especially since it is based on truth. What made you decide to bring the work of Caroline Ferriday to light, and also tell the story of the Ravensbruck "rabbits"?

Martha Hall Kelly That's a great question, Claire. I stumbled upon the story when I visited Caroline Ferriday's lovely home she called The Hay, now renamed The Bellamy-Ferriday House, in Bethlehem, CT. I saw the photo of the Polish "rabbits" on her desk and the guide explained they'd been experimented on at Ravensbruck Concentration Camp and how Caroline rallied America behind them in the 1950's and brought them to the US for medical help. I started researching Caroline and unearthed an incredible story that sent me to Europe--to Lublin Poland and Ravensbruck in Germany--searching for the truth. The more I learned the more I felt the world needed to know and remember these women. I met two of the last living "rabbits" at Ravensbruck last year and they told me how happy they were their story would be told.
So happy you liked it, Claire!
