Ellie asked Juliet Marillier:

Dear Ms. Marillier, I greatly enjoyed your sevenwaters trilogy, particularly the second book. Out of plain curiosity, I noticed that you never even really introduced the character of Fintan, the second son. Is there a reason for this? Inquiringly, ellie

Juliet Marillier Hi Ellie,
I didn't include much about Fintan because I wanted to keep the action of the later books in Ireland. There are several big flaws in the history of the earlier books (written before I realised how important good historical research is for historical fantasy.) They relate to exactly what period it is, people's names, and what was going on politically. That meant I wanted to steer away from showing scenes at Harrowfield. And because Fintan was the son who stayed there, married and had a family and was lined up to inherit his father's holdings, it was just too hard to include him in those books. I'm sure he was a lovely man!
all the best, Juliet
