Yoruhime asked Django Wexler:

Hello Mr Wexler ! I recently read the three first volumes of the Shadow Campaigns ( and the fouth is coming out right now *.*). I wanted to say it's an incredible series ! And actually, I had a question : amongst demon-carrying characters such as Winter or genius like Janus, Marcus is quite... normal, and I find him fascinating, the soldier struggling in the middle of it all. How did you create the character ?

Django Wexler Thanks so much, I'm really glad you're enjoying it! Being normal, to be honest, is a good description of Marcus' role in the story. When everyone is out of the ordinary, it can be easy to lose perspective. Marcus started out as the Dr. Watson to Janus' Holmes, whose job was to show off what a genius his boss was, but as I wrote and rewrote the first book he really developed as his own character. I like him because he's understated and a little quiet, but a lot of fun to to write.
