How do you get inspired to write?

Rachel Kramer Bussel Sometimes I overhear a word or phrase or sentence that captivates me, or see something on the news or read a news story that makes a fictional story form in my mind. For nonfiction, I usually pursue topics for essays or articles that I just can't stop thinking about. Sometimes I'm inspired by going about my life, such as seeing a sticker company selling stickers at a conference and going on to research the sticker world for two years before writing a Glamour article on them.
