Thank you :) I pray it will open people's eyes and show them what can happen when you just brush off suspicions of abuse.
I did not put it in the book but after my sister and I went to the Amish community some Mennonites that had lived around us came to visit. They apologized to my sister and I for not stepping in to help. They said they knew we were being terribly abused and had thought about calling CPS but never did :(
Actually, if you think about it I am sure everyone knew, we didn't think they did but it was a tiny town and my mom and step-dad slipped up many times and were very mean to us in front of people. I am sure each person hoped someone else would do something...... But no one ever did.

Have read some of the comments and I'm appalled to put it lightly. For those who used to be Amish and claim Misty's story can't have been true, let me ask you a question...why did you leave your faith? What drove you away? Did everyone in your community gossip about who was beating their children? Sexually molesting little kids? I thought not. So how do you know this story is untrue or manufactured? It is precisely BECAUSE society does not address such problems often enough that these plagues exist! Keep your eyes open, ask questions and report suspected problems..you just might save a child.
I'm sure that not all Amish or "fake" Amish are like Misty's parents and the community they traveled to in another state. But here in Ohio, there are many of this faith (in all its different sects) who run puppy mills where the conditions can be horrendous. They crate them and routinely travel to dog auctions to sell to highest bidder. What we call pets are considered as livestock to make money the same as pigs, cows and chickens. And when no longer "producing" a crop, they are sold off or destroyed.
Here are some links to view. After reading/viewing these, then dare to tell me that abuses don't happen in Amish communities. They happen in ALL religious groups. Stringent dogma is an open season for abuse and cruelty. Abuse of children by priests in the Catholic church, "purity balls" in evangelical Christian sects (yes, this is psychological abuse), honor killings in Islam communities. Any religious group that demands secrecy, shuns members who "tell", and tries to hide their religious creed from outsiders usually has a lot to hide. Open your eyes, folks!

That is totally unacceptable. People want someone else to take on the responsibility and use that excuse to make themselves feel better. I know in your heart you forgive them but I am disappointed with a community that does nothing. I have not yet finished your book but am simply horrified at what people will do to one another. I wish you a wonderful life, successful healing and future joy. God bless you.
