Did you read Jane Eyre while you were writing Ella Enchanted? I finished reading Jane Eyre about a month ago and I noticed some similarities between the two.

I wrote ELLA a long time ago, but I don't think so. However, I read JANE EYRE many times as a young person, so it may have influenced me.

My favorite book of all time is Ella Enchanted, and before I ask you a question I just wanted to say thank you for having such a profound impact on my life as a kid. My question is though, was there anything specific that motivated you to write Ella Enchanted? Were there ever times when you were discouraged or didn't think it would go as well as it did?
