Kaes Cat asked Benedict Jacka:

I rewrote this question a bunch of times but how do you feel about the idea of copying/inspiration? I find a lot of readers are quick to call a copy when it's not really justified but I'd be a hypocrite if I didn't admit to doing the same. As a budding writer it's one of my biggest fears but I'd like to know your opinion? Especially the opinion of my favourite authors.

Benedict Jacka Honestly, I wouldn't worry about it. It's natural to start out as an artist by copying works you admire – it just shows you really enjoyed the original. Over time, as your own voice develops and becomes more distinctive, you'll copy less and less.
