Thank you for your very thought-provoking question. I am shocked by the cruelty of man but more impressed with the miraculous nature of the human spirit to endure. The survivors I interviewed for my novels taught me that strength can be found through struggle, there is beauty in hardship, and suffering can be a spiritual teacher. When we feel loss it is because we have loved, and what could be more important than the capacity to love?
So yes, the endurance and love resonate deeper for me.
