Hello! I'm curious--have you always loved doing research, and if not, when did it click for you? Do you have a certain process you like to follow? What is it you love about research?

Hello!
Yes, I've always loved research and hunting down hidden information. It feels like being a historical detective. :) In terms of my research process, I first read all of the nonfiction sources available. I speak with academics and historians. I then travel to the country where the story takes place to research the landscape, the culture, and the people. I generally interview many people while researching a book. I then weave stories from many people together into one character so that way I'm representing a larger human experience and not just one person.

Hi Ruta, Very excited for your next book coming out have read both Between the Shades of Grey and Out of the Easy..loved both for their individual stories. I have a couple of questions. 1) Is there any travel time scheduled to come to Australia this year? If not, how do we make it happen? 2) When you are writing your main female characters, is making them strong willed an important characteristic? :) Nat

Ruta, I absolutely loved Between the shades of gray, I am not a big reader but a friend of mine John Vanagas who's Latvian family almost was taken as well told me to read it. After I read the book I passed it along to many girlfriends who passed it on their book clubs etc, and they all loved it too. I just wanted to tell you how much I and many other women and men loved Between the shades of Gray. thanks
