As a teacher, I find the history of the Holocaust and important topic to cover. I have used your book Between Shades of Gray. I am wondering if you could please share some resources about Latvian Jews affected by the Holocaust that I could use with my high school students? Through my personal studies, I have learned the more questions you answer about the Holocaust, the more questions arise.

Dear Mandy,
Thank you for this great question. "The Earth Is Singing" by Vanessa Curtis is a book about a Latvian girl during the Holocaust. Also, "We Were Here" by Ellen Cassedy describes the the Holocaust in the Baltics.
Hope those are helpful!

Hi Ruta, I love your books. In the very popular genre of Holocaust books, yours have stood out to me. I would like to know how you are able to 'get in your characrter's heads' so well? They all seem so unique and well written. And if you wouldn't mind, could you just say hi to the kids in my book club? I'm a YA librarian and would love to show them that they could connect with a favorite author if they try! Thanks!

Hi Ruta!!! I am a HUGE fan of Salt to the Sea and Between Shades of Gray! I love how you give famous events a new perspective, and I feel like I'm really learning as well when I read your books! How do you get inspiration for all of your different characters? They always seem so real, and though I have never been through what they are going through, they are always relatable! Thank you!!

Hi Ruta, Thank you for taking questions. I so enjoyed Out of the Easy. The characters were amazing and the descriptions lifted me out of my life for awhile, and gave me a real feel for the people and place. Your dialog and also your text read almost lyrically. I was wondering if you have any musical background or inspiration in your writing? I'm looking forward to now reading more of your books. Wendy
