I also have relatives near Russia and they told me how they lived during the URSS occupation,as you tell in Shades of Gray,so your book helped me to understand how terrible those years were. Well, my question is:Which period are you planning to write about in the future?Germany during Nazism,The Hundred Years' War?

I'm hard at work on the book and have already done a lot of research. I will come to Spain in October to promote the Spanish edition of "Salt to the Sea" and research my new book.

Hello Ruta! You are the one who definitely got me into historical fiction, and thank you so much! My question for you would be: do you believe that younger students (elementary-middle grades) should be shielded from the hardships and terrors of our history? Because I definitely wouldn't want to have my siblings (and children, someday) think that everything was just hunky-dory back then.
