Oh, it would be so tough to just choose a single favorite. But a non YA book I adore is "West With the Night" by Beryl Markham. I love it because the writing is beautiful and she brings the setting of Africa to life so vividly that when I am reading the book I feel as if I'm actually there. I can feel both the sun and the darkness.

I'm a high school teacher, and one of my students suggested that I read Between Shades of Gray. I loved it so much that I read the entire book in a single day! I was just wondering if you could tell me about your writing process. How do the ideas for your novels come to you? Do you outline first and then write? Do you write every single day or only when you feel inspired?

Hi! Salt to the Sea was my first book to read by you - I am looking forward to checking out your other novels. I thought Salt to the Sea would make a GREAT movie...all the characters where so real and I felt compassion for them all - have you had anyone approach you about a movie?
