I would recommend reading and/or watching a stage production of William Shakespeare's "Hamlet" first. This is an adaptation of Shakespeare's "Hamlet", so I advocate for the original first so that you can enjoy the story as it was meant to be enjoyed. Also, you will be able to better appreciate the nuances and changes that were made.
