In terms of a writing community, ten years ago I joined SCBWI ( www.scbwi.org ) and it was through SCBWI that I found my writing group. We are all very different writers but that diversity brings wonderful and varied feedback. SCBWI has chapters in every region. Below is a link where you can find yours. Also, becoming involved with your local independent book store can also help you find writers. I hope this helps!
