Goodreads asked Kim O. Davis:

What’s your advice for aspiring writers?

Kim O. Davis I would recommend that you order a copy of Stephen King's book "On Writing." He is far more qualified than I am about advising aspiring authors. From my own experience, I would would identify a subject about which you are passionate or knowledgeable. Then begin to put words on paper. Just write. Do not let others discourage you. As Stephen King says in his book, the story is like finding a buried fossil. Like the archaeologist who must work to uncover the dinosaur hidden from view, the author must work to have the story revealed. King does not believe in extensive plotting on the front end. He begins with a notion of a story. Then begins to write. The plot often surprises even him. The last recommendation from King is that a good writer must read extensively. Its not too late to start writing and it does not require extensive training in creative writing, etc. It requires passion and commitment like most things in life. Commit a a block of time each day and write. Put words on paper. I hope this helps.
