Where did you get the idea for your most recent book?

Heather Mateus Sappenfield LIFE AT THE SPEED OF US had its genesis in several aspects of my life. Foremost, as a reading specialist, I wanted to write a book that captured the experiences of the many people with dyslexia that I've met, who are so smart but struggle to excel in the channels that are most acceptable in schools and US society. Many of these people are very good in math, and I wanted Sovern to be as smart as possible in that way, thus the quantum theory. I also wanted to capture the feel and vitality of a world-class ski resort--what it feels like on the mountain. Ski patrolmen (and women) are true, hard-working heroes (some with PTSD from the difficult things they experience), and I wanted to give tribute to them. Last, I love the history of places, the ways that history can influence our lives without even realizing it, so with the time-travel, that came into the novel too.
