I was inspired to look further into the heroin epidemic in America after listening to a Slate Working podcast that interviewed a doctor in SE Washington, DC who said, "Doctors are not good at pain management." I had been aware of opioid issues in SE Asia from my travels there and was also aware of drug trafficking patterns in Europe. So I combined my recent visits to Spain, Italy, Thailand and Cambodia to explore the issue further ad develop the novel, Chasing the Tiger. The title refers to a popular method of inhaling heroin vapors in Thailand.
