Yes. It is known that a character commits suicide but the play takes place in the aftermath of that suicide.

Why do people think Skipper committed suicide because I don't think he did? Here's what the play says happened to him:
"You know how poor Skipper died. They gave him a big, big dose of that sodium amytal stuff at his home and then they called the ambulance and give him another big, big dose of it at the hospital and that and all of the alcohol in his system fo' months an months an' months just proved too much for his heart.... "
That doesn't read as suicide to me - he died from alcoholism. The barbiturate (a sedative) that he was given was probably because he was having withdrawals or DTs. Of course you can read drinking yourself to death as a slow suicide but that wouldn't be the direct cause of death.
