how long did this book take to get published and how did you finalize in picking the publishing company you wanted to work with?

Kyle Prue Sorry I missed your question. It took me about a year to get published. I ended up going with small, independent publisher because traditional publishing takes so long and I wanted to get the book out in time for college applications. I found my agent by going to a writing conference that let you "speed date" with agents for 15 minutes. It helps to get face to face to pitch your book if you are a new author so I recommend writing conferences. No matter what, hire a professional editor. Friends won't spend the time that a paid editor will to give you very detailed feedback. I got 15 typed pages of comments from my first editor. That kind of feedback is priceless. Good luck!
